Cap'n Crunch in BETTER OFF DEAD (1985)

Several boxes of Cap'n Crunch appear in the absurd John Cusack movie, BETTER OFF DEAD (1985), from writer/director Savage Steve Holland.

Story[]

In the movie, young Badger Meyer, played by actor Scooter Stevens, has previously cut out the order blanks off the backs of all of the cereal boxes to mail away for prizes. So when father Al Meyer, played by actor David Ogden Stiers, picks up a box of cereal, all of the cereal pours out of the box.

In reality, cereal comes in bags within the boxes, so this would never actually happen, but it's funnier the way the scene was written and shot.

Mother Jenny Meyer, played by actress Jim Darby, is also in the scene talking about boiling bacon.

The scene starts just before the 5:00 minute mark of the movie.

Just before the 21:00 mark of the movie, the same gag is done again, with Lane Meyer, played by actor John Cusack, pouring Cat Chow in the cat's bow before pouring Cat Chow into his cereal bowl.

The Cereal Box[]

Most of the back of the box can plainly be seen as the Cap'n Crunch box featuring the "Join The Crunch Island Treasure Hunt: WIN $1,000 CASH" promotion from 1983 or 1984.

The back of the box artwork features the characters Cap'n Crunch, Seadog, Alfie and Brunhilde on Crunch Island.

The third box features the "Free Rock Poster Inside" promotion on the front of the box.
