Hostess Comic ads

During the Bronze Age of comic, from 1975 to 1982 the Continental Baking Company, the makers of Hostess baked treats and Wonder Bread, among other products, started placing ads in comic books featuring comic characters interacting with Hostess products.

Western Publishing[]

In 1980 Western Publishing hit some distribution issues. You can read about those issues in this article on Mike's Amazing World of Comics Blog. As Western Publishing had difficulties getting those comics into the hands of kids so they could see the Hostess ads, the Continental Baking Company ended their advertising partnership with Western Publishing. Not overly long after that, other advertisers left too and in the final issues of most of the comic series, the only ads are the in-house ads on the inside covers and back cover.

1981 to 1982[]

Hostess ads continued to appear in the pages of Archie comics, Harvey comics, DC comics and Marvel comics in 1981 and 1982, but none of those ads featured Looney Tunes characters, as Western Publishing had the comics license. There are no Hostess ads in comics featuring a 1983 date.
