In the 1960s, long before the beloved Hostess Comic ads, in addition to the Rocky and Bullwinkle TV commercials for Cheerios, many of kids favorite comic books featured General Mills comic ads, Trix, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs and Cheerios, featuring the Jay Ward characters, Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Bullwinkle Walkie Talkie - Cheerios Box Back - Prototype Art[]

c. late 1960s for a premium that was never produced. 9.75x12" artboard has ink and colored pencil art on sheet of vellum art paper. Bullwinkle is holding walkie talkies at upper left designed as his head w/antlers, boy and girl are using them below. Lower right has sample "Cooperating Product" box image w/spaces for text for ordering. Vellum sheet is attached to artboard w/tape around blank margins. Upper right has archival tape repair only visible on close inspection. Back of art board has "Gold Premium Corporation" ink stamp. Art is Exc. Nicely designed. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold, accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold.
